Pentakill, the in-game League of Legends heavy metal band, is getting a real-world album release. The Rift riffing, summoner shredding band Pentakill is bringing metal back to the Fields of Justice with their new album, Smite and Ignite. It's a Pentakill skin so has Kayle decked out in heavy metal-style armour, joining the likes of Pentakill Sona, Yorick, Karthus, Olaf and Mordekaiser.
His classical mace was adapted to the axe-guitar which is a very clever turn of the Riot Games. It's a metal band whose music goes perfectly playing in the background as you rack up kills in the Summoner's Rift. Three years have passed since the release of their debut album, but the fictional band Pentakill is back with some very real heavy metal music.
In addition to this tight timeframe, we also had to get on the same page with the Riot Games music department, with the actual musicians who made the tracks, with the graphic designers who created the band members, and with the marketing team responsible for promoting the game and the album.
Update August 3, 2017: Lo and behold, the gods of metal have brought upon us a new album on this great day, as the full second Pentakill album is now available to stream and download. Pentakill skins for League of Legends are the skins released with the Pentakill theme.
For those not familiar with Pentakill and League of Legends : League of Legends is the worlds most popular online game with visits of more than 100 million players every month. It's also something that rarely happens in "League of Legends" competitive play: Teams form strategies against such devastation.
Having become a Billboard hit with their 2014 debut 8 track EP ‘Smite And Ignite' , featuring such modern metal classics as ‘Ohmwrecker' and ‘The Hex Core', Pentakill are set to release their first full album ‘Pentakill II: Grasp Of The Undying'. Karthus picked up his microphone, dressed in a decent suit and now he looks like a real metal band singer.
Even more surprising, the group turned out to be a virtual band made up of fictional members — vocalist Karthus, guitarist Mordekaiser, bassist Yorick, keyboardist Sona and drummer Olaf — embodied by an original skin line in the massively popular online game League of Legends.
You can buy Pentakill Yorick skin for 975 RP in the League of Legends in-game store. Each of them have unique skins that fit into this heavy metal rock band theme. Pentakill Karthus catches the eye and new sound voice lines only add uniqueness to this skin. The real life Pentakill band, hoewver, is cormpised of a number of musicians within Riot, as well as some professional rockers.
And to crank it up a notch, Mordekaiser, Sona, Karthus, Olaf, and Yorick are taking the stage with new splash art, in-game models, and an all new summoner icon. A green smoke suddenly formed and popped Karthus, the lead singer of the rock band. You can read more about the band and that album here , covering them was actually one of the very first articles that I ever wrote for Metal Insider.
I mean, given the response they got after "get jinxed" I shouldn't be surprised they went ahead and did more music, but I wasn't expecting a whole metal album. And that's smart, as death in "League of Legends" means wasted time. The greatest League of Legends metal band that Runeterra has ever witnessed has been quiet for a while, but it looks like the gang is getting back together soon according to a new Pentakill teaser video.
Three years after the release of Smite & Ignite, Pentakill II: Grasp Of The Undying is a full length, 10-track record showcasing the multi-faceted talents of the music professionals and avid production team involved, and featuring genre-influences ranging from power metal, NWOBHM, thrash, modern progressive death metal, and league of legends even industrial.
